Overcoming obstacles
A day at Redbanks Fish and Field saw the first-year players take part in an arduous obstacle course.
Allow the winner of the race, rookie Kayne Turner to take you through it from start to finish.
At the start of the course we had a sandbag run around a circle of trees. Then we had to jump over ten bales of hay.
Next we ran across to ropes which were hanging over water.
After the ropes we had to jump over more hay bales and up over another rope wall.
Then we ran to the rock wall, climbed it…
Before going across the logs, down over hills and into the water.
We were hurting at this stage, but we dragged ourselves up a slight hill with the rope…
This was followed by more ropes over water. After that we went over monkey bars.
The wobbly log over the water was tough.
Down the very far end of the course was a single rope wall which was one of the harder things.
Then we ran back around for three walls we had to climb. The first was 1.6 metres, the second was two and the last was a three metre wall.
Right down the bottom of the course there was a few wheels we had to jump over before running back to where we started.
Doing such an activity, even in the form of a race to cap off the four-day camp can only bring the players closer together.
“It’s good to get to know the other first year players a bit better. You learn a lot about the other boys so it’s been really enjoyable,” Turner said.
“You’re able to talk to them about more as you get a lot more comfortable. You can share a joke, have a laugh and know that they won’t take it too personally.”
North’s youngsters will enjoy a three-day break before returning to training with their team-mates on Monday for a special Australia Day open session.
