Drew Petrie had only experienced three victories from 16 outings at Subiaco before Friday night, so you could understand his joy at the final siren.

Over an illustrious 250-game career, North’s number 20 hadn’t experienced too many wins better than this.

“I enjoyed it on the ground. I was so pumped with all the boys. The effort they put in tonight was first-class,” Petrie told NMFC.com.au after the match.

“Freo is a bloody tough side to play against, especially over here and they got off to a really good start.

“We could have turned our toes up and in previous years we have, but the belief and the fight… the guys across the back-line, Michael Firrito you could just see him all night aggressive and spoiling and marking, Lachie Hansen… the list goes on. You could probably name every bloke for doing something really good defensively tonight. We just kept grinding and grinding and it was brilliant.”

The milestone man kicked a clutch goal in the last quarter to give his team an important lead, while his great mate Brent Harvey was a star once again.

“He was great. We knew Crowley was going to run with him pretty tight, but Boomer did some great defensive, selfless things in trying to round up Michael Johnson who was dominating the game early,” Petrie added.

“He did a lot of unselfish things tonight, but just still provided that run.

“It’s nice to play 250, but for a bloke like him who’s play 360 or something, it’s just outstanding for him to still be able to do what he does.”

North last defeated Fremantle at Subiaco way back in 2007, with just four of Friday night’s 22 lining up in the victory.
