The Huddle might be best known for working with current students and providing extensive after-hours tutoring programs but the educational and community facility is also deeply engaged in helping young adults map out their futures post school and university.

Recently, 25 young migrant students aged 16 and over visited The Huddle to explore their career options.

“We helped them set long term and short term goals and also had them working with our wonderful volunteers to write a resume,” Education Programs Manager Mairead Hannan explained.

Some had already embarked upon tertiary study in their home country while others were just beginning to consider their interests and plans for the future.  The students had a wide range of career ambitions, including a being pilots, chefs, social workers, psychologists, and nurses.

“One of the individuals we worked with was Hasti, a young Farsi speaking woman from Iran. Hasti is about 19-years-old,  and has already completed a semester in Mechanical Engineering in her home country,” Hannan said.

“She  is now preparing for her Year 11 studies and plans to continue with mechanical engineering once she has settled here and mastered English through her studies at the Western English Language School”.

“These students are committed to doing their best. We were delighted to play a role in supporting them to achieve their best and fulfil their aspirations.”
