Ben Jacobs has taken another step forward in his comeback from injury, as a standout performer in Werribee's win over North Ballarat.

It was only six days since his first game back in the development league, but it was easy to forget Jacobs had missed so much football over the past year.

The midfielder was arguably Werribee’s best player at Eureka Stadium, winning plenty of the ball and covering the ground well.

“It was good to be out there again and get through a whole game and step up to VFL again from development last week,” Jacobs told NMFC.com.au following the match.

“It’s a bit more intense and obviously there’s better footballers. But it was good, I knew more of the boys out there, it’s North boys, so I loved it today.

“I’m just happy I was able to play four quarters.”

Braydon Preuss dominated in the ruck, racking up the hit-outs, with Jacobs crediting the big-man for playing a key role in his performance.

“It’s pretty easy when that guy’s (Preuss) out there because he’s such a beast,” Jacobs said.

“But it was windy out there so it probably hampered his ruck ability a little bit.

“He (still) dominates in there, he’s such a big man and it was great.”

While Jacobs can't wait for an AFL game, he's taking things one step at a time.

“My priority is just catching up with some conditioning and trying to get as much in during the week," he said.

“That’s all my priority is right now and we’ll see how we go over the next couple of weeks.”

A five-point win capped off a great day for Jacobs and Werribee, with the Tigers able to hold on against a fast-finishing Roosters' outfit.

“As a group, we struggled a bit and it was a bit of a scrappy win but the boys were able to stand up in the last quarter and hold on, because they were coming," he added.
