Essendon's exit from the finals' race makes for a whole new ball game in Round 23, but Brad Scott says his team won't be approaching things any differently than usual.

The Kangaroos will find out their circumstances on Saturday, relying on Carlton and Brisbane to lose their respective games, before a must-win clash against Collingwood the following day,

"It hasn't changed our thinking at all.  I've been really strong with the players for a long period of time, even midway through the year, that we need to focus on playing our best football against the best teams and that's been our attitude this year," Scott told the media in Hobart following a community partnership launch with Nyrstar.

"We get another opportunity against Collingwood this week.  If we hold up our end of the bargain and other results fall our way, then I feel with a good win against Collingwood on Sunday we'll be in good shape if we do make the finals."

Asked whether North Melbourne would be deserving of a spot in September, Scott's response was pointed.

"If it falls to us, we've had to play Essendon, Hawthorn and Collingwood on the way home. Throughout the year we've beaten Geelong, so we've beaten some high-quality sides.

"We'll be going in with confidence that we can play anyone anywhere, anytime."

That task is easier said than done. The Magpies are hitting their straps at the business end of the season and will be looking to go into the finals in form.

"I think they've got pretty close to their best team running around at the moment, so if we beat them that should give us a level of confidence," Scott added.
