The North Melbourne Tasmanian Kangaroos’ midfield has received a boost ahead of Saturday's preliminary final, with wing duo Amy Smith and Taylah Gatt both signing two-year contract extensions.
Smith’s new deal will see her remain at the Kangaroos until at least the end of 2026, while Gatt, who was already contracted for next season, has extended until at least the end of 2027.
The first father-daughter selection in the club’s history, Smith turned her back on a promising basketball career to pursue her AFLW dream.
The 26-year-old, whose father Shaun represented North Melbourne 47 times from 1987 to 1992, has played 43 games since being taken with pick No.55 in the 2020 AFLW Draft, including every game over the past two seasons.
Gatt arrived at Arden Street via the Kangaroos’ first pick and the 28th overall in the 2022 AFLW Draft.
The 20-year-old, who was recognised as the club’s Best Young Player in 2023, has played every possible game bar one across her three seasons at the club.
"Amy has become a reliable member of our midfield, playing her role consistently week in and week out, and is a much-loved figure amongst the playing group," North Melbourne AFLW list manager Flynn Loft said.
"Taylah has continued to make great strides in her development this season and has made an impact with her ability to take the game forward through her speed on the outside.
"We look forward to having them both at the club for a further two years and seeing where they can take their game."
