At three quarter time against Richmond, Cameron Ling interviewed Brad Scott and asked what the Roos’ plan was for the final quarter.

"We'll just change our forward structure up a little bit...we'll try and play Petrie a little deeper," was Scott's response.

It immediately paid dividends, as this edition of NMFC Playbook shows.

Petrie's opponent Alex Rance, clears from the North 50, out to the wing. The ball almost goes out of bounds, but an excellent effort by Ben Cunnington to tap the Sherrin back to Matt Campbell, gives North possession.

Petrie stays close to home as instructed, while Rance lingers on the edge of the 50.

When the ball ends up in Brent Harvey's hands about 75 metres out from goal, the new plan unfolds. Initially it seems that Petrie has a lack of space to work in.

However, the three North forwards in closest proximity to him immediately create space by leading away. Leigh Adams and Lachlan Hansen run towards the ball carrier.

Meanwhile Lindsay Thomas picks a spot just far enough away from Petrie to give him space, while still being close enough to pounce on any crumbs if they eventuate.

It works to perfection as Harvey's perfect kick gives Petrie every chance to mark it. The key forward makes no mistake and goes back to kick the first of his five goals for the final term.

Brad Scott couldn’t have asked for a better response; an example of great coaching and great execution from his players.
