North Melbourne’s trade week target Ben Jacobs has officially severed ties with Port Adelaide.

The 20-year old is believed to be nominating for the upcoming National Draft on November 22.

Currently at home in Melbourne, Jacobs is understood to have no intentions of returning to Adelaide.

The Roos actively sought a trade for the talented youngster but couldn’t come to an agreement with the Power.

“The Kangaroos remain Jacobs' preferred choice and are understood to have made a commitment to him. St Kilda and Essendon also have expressed interest in him,” Capel writes.

It means Port will not be compensated for losing Jacobs after snaring him with pick 16 at the 2010 draft - one pick ahead of Shaun Atley.

"We've spoken to his management a couple of times but until we hear officially of what he wants to do then I guess we're still holding some hope that he will decide to stay,'' Port football operations manager Peter Rohde said.

"Now that we're back (from Europe) we'll follow it up but it's fair to say we're not overly confident he will be here next year.''
