A friendship forged over fishing could be the start of a special connection in the North Melbourne midfield.
Jed Anderson is one of many keen fishermen at the club, and believes the shared interest between the group has many benefits.
“It helps that connection between us,” he told North Media.
“You are getting out and aren’t talking about footy when you’re out fishing.
“Spending time together when we aren’t at the club helps grow our connection and I think that makes us stronger.”
Anderson, alongside Ben Cunnington, Jack Ziebell, Jy Simpkin and Paul Ahern make up the “Arden St Anglers”, a group which even has its own Instagram page dedicated to the players’ angling adventures.
“Jy (Simpkin) controls it, but it’s all a bit of fun,” Anderson revealed.
“’Ziebs’ (Jack Ziebell) got some shirts made up for us, which we are hoping to put out… There’s a few fans keen for them (laughs).
“We all enjoy each other’s company, and it helps us on the field too.”
The number three’s interest in fishing dates back to his younger days in Darwin. Now, he and his young family make trip regularly.
“The family and I went back to Darwin (in the off-season), and we spent a lot of time back up north,” Anderson said.
“We love the environment and lifestyle up there, and it was great to escape and relax.”
A proud father to his two boys, Elijah and Jasiah, and husband to Nicky, Anderson admits his family keeps him on his toes.
“They keep me pretty busy,” he said.
“I love watching them grow and love watching the boys play footy or, any sport. I help out where I can, without getting in the way of the coaches.”
And the family is set to grow again in May, with a baby girl on the way.
“We’re so excited,” Anderson added.
“A girl will be a big change from the boys, but we can’t wait.
“The boys were both born in Darwin, but this will be in-season. so she’ll be born in Melbourne.”
