He's on the record saying he wants to kick more goals, but North star Nick Dal Santo may have to put those plans on hold with Brad Scott considering playing him at half-back in 2014.

"It is (being considered)," Scott told AAP.

"If you speak to most clubs, probably the buzz word in footy at the moment is versatility.

"There's a bit of follow the leader in that. Hawthorn played Sam Mitchell off half-back last year and Shaun Burgoyne and Luke Hodge in defence and all of those guys spent time in the midfield as well.

The temptation for the Roos to utilise the former Saint as a genuine 'play maker' could be too great to pass up.

"Dal has played there so I know he can play there. What we've got to work out is how the mix works.

"He's a genuine midfielder who can play at both ends.

"We look at last year when Andrew Swallow went out, Ben Jacobs and Levi Greenwood came in.

"This year Nick Dal Santo comes into that."

Scott hopes the addition of Dal Santo to the North list and the improvement of the club's young ball winners will take the pressure of dual best and fairest winner Daniel Wells.

"Probably Daniel Wells aside, they're all young guys but they've played a fair bit of footy now," Scott said.

"Clearly any side would love arguably their best midfielder and captain back as soon as possible.

"A lot of people have said to me over the last couple of years, do we need to get new guys into the side?

"The new guys are in the side.

"Jack Ziebell, Ben Cunnington, Ryan Bastinac, Jamie Macmillan, Shaun Atley, Kieran Harper, Levi Greenwood, Liam Anthony - those guys have played around 50 games now.

"Those are the guys who are going to keep on improving and we're fortunate that our veterans are still performing at a high level."
