Well rested

Saturday will mark 328 days since Daniel Wells last graced an AFL football field.

The veteran midfielder left Etihad Stadium with an achilles injury at halftime in Round 2 versus Brisbane on April 12, 2015, and didn’t see any further senior action for the remainder of the season.

A King is born

Wagga is the birthplace of arguably the greatest player of all time. On May 27, 1971, North champion Wayne Carey was born to Kevin and Lynne. He was one of five children.

Reunited at last

Farren Ray and Nick Dal Santo will run out together for the first time since their St Kilda playing days. The last time the pair teamed up, they featured in a big win over Fremantle. The game took place in Round 23, 2013 at Etihad, with the third-last placed Saints beating the third placed Dockers by 71-points. Dal (34) and Faz (25) had 59 disposals between them. It was Scott Watters’ last game as St Kilda coach.

Breaking new ground

North Melbourne has never played an official match at Robertson Oval. The Roos have only competed an intra club match, which took place on February 2, 2005. Rookie Justin Perkins starred on the wing and through the midfield. Nathan Thompson also dominated along with a young Daniel Pratt and Brent LeCras.

Of the current North players, Farren Ray is the only one to have played at the venue. He was part of a St Kilda outfit smashed by the Giants in the NAB Challenge in 2014.

Pig on the Spit

Levi “Pig” Greenwood will face his former side for the first time since departing Arden Street at the end of 2014. There’s every chance the midfielder will play on the Roos’ captain Andrew Swallow.
