Majak Daw had no idea what Aussie Rules was until he arrived in Australia at the age of 12 in 2003. Now ten years on, he's hoping to encourage and inspire other kids from multicultural backgrounds to follow in his footsteps.

Daw, the first Sudanese-born player to make it onto an AFL list and debut, is about to launch his own academy 'Majak's First Kick' which teaches primary school students all there is to know about AFL.

"I'm so happy to be able to help these kids learn about footy and be a part of the journey with them," Daw told NMFC.com.au.

"I discovered football in the playground with my friends at high school when I arrived in Australia, but these kids have the opportunity to learn the skills at a much younger age which is great for their fitness, self-confidence and ability to make new friends."

Majak's First Kick is a 10-week football program for primary school students that live in and around the Flemington/North Melbourne area. Boys and girls from prep to grade six will learn everything from bouncing the footy, handballing, kicking and how to take a mark.

Boys and girls will be split into two groups for training and the program will lead to an AFL 9's match. The weekly sessions will not only be valuable for the children's football development but more importantly their personal development and sense of community.

It's not too late to register to be involved in Majak's First Kick, which starts next Monday 3rd February at 4.00pm at Debneys Park, Flemington.
