Forward Shaun Higgins says North has shown enough in the second half of the season to suggest its best form can rival any team.

The 27-year-old, who has been named in the AFL's preliminary 40-man All Australian squad, has been an integral member of the Roos' line-up since joining the club as a restricted free agent at the end of last year.

Higgins said the side's confidence had grown after winning seven consecutive games between rounds 15 and 21.

"In the second half of the year, we didn't play exactly the way that we wanted but we showed in games, especially the Fremantle game (round 21), that we were able to grind out performances and wins," Higgins said on Tuesday.

"We were able to do that again on the weekend (against Richmond), it wasn't a five or 10-minute patch which we were probably doing early in the year to win games (but) it was knuckle down and get the job done over three or four quarters."

Higgins said the Roos were both physically and mentally prepared to continue their finals assault this Saturday night against the Sydney Swans after dusting off the cobwebs against Richmond.

"The first final always holds a little bit of extra nerves and for (me playing in a) new team, I felt that a little bit as well," he said.

"Our focus all year has been to prepare a side and prepare a style of footy that would be able to compete deep into September.

"We've got grand plans for the bigger scheme of things, so by no means was last week our Grand Final."

The 151-gamer, who has played all but one match for the Roos, labelled his 2015 campaign his "most consistent season".

"I've been able to get my body in good physical condition to be able to perform that role," Higgins said.

"The game's too hard now to go into a season a little bit underdone."
