Drew Petrie says he feels he let his teammates down after being cited by the Match Review Panel.

Petrie said the club was still to decide if it would accept the ban, but said it was likely he'd be forced to sit out Friday night's clash with Essendon after being offered a one week suspension for striking Geelong's Andrew Mackie on Saturday night.

"Tomorrow I'll go back in to the footy club and check up how the MRP have graded the incident," Petrie told Crocmedia's Sportsday on Monday night.

"It was a little bit of undisciplined play from myself, I'll take responsibility and I won't shy away from that.

"It's a pretty ordinary feeling when you cop a week. I've obviously let the team down and it's embarrassing."

Putting aside his looming suspension, Petrie said he was pleased with the way all 22 players contributed to the 41-point win over the Cats.

"We had a contribution from everyone. The test now is to see if we can do it against Essendon on Friday night," the number 20 said.

"The expectation of everybody is that when the footy is not in your hands, you're helping to put defensive pressure on. That responsibility goes to forwards, midfielders and obviously the defenders."

The 283-gamer said the challenge for his side was to re-produce that effort against Essendon on Friday night.

"The form we've shown this year would suggest this week (against Essendon) we'd perform ordinary and have a loss given the evidence we've shown to everyone.

"But I think with the side you saw on Saturday night - we didn't do anything outstanding - we had contributors across the ground.

"The test now is to see if we can do it against Essendon on Friday night."

Meanwhile, Petrie said the form of the club's newest recruits in Shaun Higgins and Jarrad Waite had been promising heading in to the business end of the season.

"What we saw from Jarrad on Saturday night was an outstanding amount of pressure... (while) Shaun Higgins has been really solid all year for us.

"His (Higgins') ball use ... he's very clean, always hits the target. He's a damaging player with the ball in his hands."
