NORTH Melbourne coach Brad Scott says his side's 115-point thrashing by Hawthorn was an "aberration" and the Kangaroos can bounce back.

North was on the end of a stellar performance from champion Lance Franklin, who booted 13 goals at Aurora Stadium on Saturday, in a record loss to the Hawks.

But their season record has also dipped to 4-6 and shows signs of not delivering on its early promise.

"It was a bitterly disappointing day for all of us," Scott said.

"Our attitude is that it's been an aberration.

"We've had some performances that have been far from satisfactory but not one like that where we've been completely obliterated in all areas."

Scott said the Kangaroos would lick their wounds over the next two weeks, with a bye next weekend.

"Our challenge now is what we're going to do about that and we've got two weeks to sort it out because our season's not over," he said.

"As a playing group and as a senior coach, we've got to get that sorted out.

"We're up for the challenge."

Scott said it was time his side forgot about its youthfulness and measured up to the rigours of the AFL.

"We can't keep falling back on the fact that we're inexperienced," he said.

"We've got to grow up quickly as a group because we can't allow sides to do that to us."

The Kangaroos get some reprieve in round 12 when they take on strugglers Gold Coast.
