Sydney co-captain Kieren Jack is an outside chance of playing against North Melbourne on Saturday night.
Jack, who is making a recovery from a strained medical ligament, ran laps at the Swans’ training session on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, Luke Parker was also looking to prove his fitness as he continues on the comeback trail from a fractured fibula, but is set to miss another week.
“Kieren is a bit closer (than Luke) so we’ll wait until Thursday to make a call,” Sydney General Manager of Football Tom Harley told the club’s website.
“If you had to pinpoint two players who made sure they left no stone unturned in their rehab, they would be right at the top of the list.”
Defender Nick Smith will be put through a final fitness test on Thursday, but it’s anticipated he’ll make his return from a hamstring strain.
The Swans will be without key-position players Lance Franklin (illness) and Sam Reid (hamstring), but midfielder Lewis Jetta is confident they can overcome their absence.
“We’ve got a lot of players who might not be very tall but can jump and can take a good overhead mark,” Jetta said.
“We’ve got (Dean) Towers who played a big role last weekend when Reidy went down, while we’ve also got (Isaac) Heeney who can take a big mark as well.
“And plus we’ve still got the great man in A.Goodes running around.”
Sydney co-captain Jarrad McVeigh backed Goodes and Kurt Tippett to test the Roos’ defenders.
“You want your best players playing footy at this time of year and there is no secret about that. We will have a few different options up there,” McVeigh said.
“Tippo has been playing really well the last couple of months so he will be down there a bit more and Goodsey has hit some good form as well.
“We will have a young fella come in this week, I am not too sure who it will be but we just have to find a way (to score).
“Our defence is intact and our midfield is playing well so we just need to get the score on the board whatever way possible and I am confident we can do that.”
