Luke Davies-Uniacke is in doubt for North Melbourne's AFLX games on Friday night after injuring his back at training.
Davies-Uniacke, pick No.4 in last year's NAB AFL Draft, was named in North's AFLX squad after an impressive first pre-season at Arden Street.
However, the former Dandenong Stingrays midfielder received a knock to his back at training on Wednesday that forced him from the track.
A North spokesperson told AFL.com.au on Thursday that Davies-Uniacke would be assessed on Friday before North named its final squad for its AFLX games against Carlton and Melbourne at Etihad Stadium.
Meanwhile, North forward Mason Wood is hopeful of returning from a fractured thumb for the Roos' opening JLT Community Series game against Melbourne on February 24.
Wood was injured during North's intra-club game last Friday when Jamie Macmillan fell on his thumb after a contest.
Scans subsequently revealed a minor fracture in Wood's thumb that was expected to keep him from participating in contact drills for three weeks.
But the forward told NMFC.com.au on Thursday he was pushing for an earlier return.
"In my head, it's feeling really good so I think I'll be a chance to push my case for hopefully JLT (week) one, but JLT (week) two is worse-case scenario at this stage," Wood said.
North plays its second JLT game against Richmond on March 7 at Ikon Park.
