Mason Wood has downplayed the severity of his fractured thumb, and hopes to feature in the JLT Community Series.
Wood suffered the injury in the second half of last week’s City v Country intra-club match.
“J-Mac sat on it with his big fat bum, and just put a little crack in it but it’s feeling really good,” Wood joked to North Media.
“It’s just unfortunate and one of those things that just happens in footy.”
Despite suffering a fracture, the injury is quite minor. So minor, that Wood didn’t think anything of it at the time.
“I didn’t feel any pain,” Wood revealed.
“Apparently when you ice it after the game it should ache, but it didn’t.
“I came on and off a couple of times and the doctor said it wasn’t broken. He pushed and prodded and said it’ll be more sore if it was broken.
“It is fairly tiny, but at the same time it’s still a broken bone so you’ve got to give it it’s due course to heal, and although we will be quite proactive with getting me back as quick as possible, it is a broken bone and we’ve got to let it do its thing.
“It wasn’t wrenched into an awkward position so it hasn’t done any ligament damage and it’s basically waiting for a really stable bone to heal a bit.”
Wood expects to be back on the field in a matter of no time, with his sights set on the first JLT Series Community match later this month.
“Round 1 won’t be affected at all,” Wood added.
“At this stage, worse case is JLT 2, but in my head it’s feeling really good so I think I’ll be a chance to hopefully push my case for JLT 1.”
