At the end of each season, there is the obligatory discussion about who could take “Charlie” home. Footy fans stretch their memories back to games played several months prior in an effort to identify their club’s best chance at winning the coveted award.

This year NMFC.com.au is asking for your help to determine the three best players from each game and you can vote in the Mazda Spirit Awards for your best three Kangaroos.

It was a disappointing loss in Perth to the Eagles, but there were still multiple candidates for Brownlow Medal votes.

Here is the case for each of the players in the running for the votes, in alphabetical order. We’ll pick our 3-2-1, then you can have your say.

Ben Brown – NMFC

North’s best forward on the day, Brown kicked four goals to be the equal-highest goal scorer on the ground. He has only been goalless on two occasions this season, consistently providing a target close to home.

Andrew Gaff – West Coast

No Eagle gained more metres than Gaff’s 537, with his 26 disposals also largely efficient as he drove his side forward time and time again.

Sam Gibson – NMFC

In his 100th game, Gibson had a team-high 29 disposals and seven marks. His 20 uncontested possessions, also a team-high, indicated his importance in providing an option on the outside.

Josh Kennedy – West Coast

West Coast’s most influential forward, Kennedy kicked 4.4 for the afternoon. The tally could have been higher if he didn’t miss several gettable shots on goal.

Matt Priddis – West Coast

The midfielder’s best work was done defensively, laying 12 tackles for the afternoon. However, he also had 25 disposals and five clearances.

Andrew Swallow – NMFC

Although his 200 game milestone didn’t go according to plan, the North captain was still important inside with 25 disposals, six tackles and four clearances.

Luke Shuey – West Coast

Shuey was influential in all areas of the game, from disposals (29) to clearances (9) and even goal assists (3).
