AFL Fantasy is back for another year, and the team at Footy Prophet will again be supplying NMFC.com.au with premium fantasy analysis and tips for the 2016 season.
North Melbourne's defeat of Brisbane was a game which delivered a lot of interesting AFL Fantasy news for coaches to digest.
Once again, it wasn’t a particularly high scoring fantasy game, but there were a few stand outs worth mentioning.
Ben Jacobs restricted Daniel Rich to 36 points, completely shutting him out of the game, while Brisbane captain and fantasy favourite Tom Rockliff only scored 24 points.
It would seem North is going to be a very tough team to score against this season.
We had a very interesting top five in this week’s preview and let’s now breakdown those five in this week’s fantasy review.
1. Jarrad Waite ($480,100, FWD)
Jarrad Waite has now scored back to back big scores with 117 last week and 127 this week which has given him a healthy $50,000 price boost.
Waite kicked five goals and had over 20 disposals against the Lions in a dominant performance, but don’t get lured in just yet. Keep an eye on him for a little longer before electing whether to buy.
2. Daniel Wells ($354,000, FWD/MID)
We’re only two rounds into the season, but it’s safe to say that Daniel Wells is proving to be an outstanding selection.
The most selected player in the competition backed up his 95 from last week with 89 this week and is proving to be a reliable part of the majority of AFL Fantasy sides.
3. Drew Petrie ($388,300, FWD)
Petrie is another strange inclusion in this week’s top five because he’s not really a player many would consider for their sides. However, given the brittle nature of Brisbane’s defence, it’s safe to say Petrie was a solid unique option.
The veteran played superbly in Round 2, finishing with 80 points and taking nine marks.
4. Taylor Garner ($266,000, FWD)
Garner was another surprising addition to this list and he didn’t really back it up on the weekend, only scoring 52 points and only managing 22 in the first half.
With Anderson out of the side, he may be an interesting AFL Fantasy pick, but at the end of the day it’s risky picking someone who hasn’t proven themselves as a fantasy scorer just yet.
5. Todd Goldstein ($588,100, RUC)
Goldstein came up against his fellow top fantasy ruckman in Stefan Martin this week and unfortunately for the North ruckman, it was Martin who took home the chocolates.
Martin outscored Goldstein by 35 points in a game where the Roo arguably got the better of the Brisbane ruckman from a match performance perspective.
However, it didn’t translate to fantasy points and that’s why Todd Goldstein comes in last in this week’s top five, only managing a score of 62.
