AFL Fantasy is back for another year, and the team at Footy Prophet will again be supplying NMFC.com.au with premium fantasy analysis and tips for the 2016 season.

You could hear the sound of thousands of AFL fantasy coaches locking Daniel Wells into their teams on Saturday night, as the dual Syd Barker Medallist put together his second strong showing in as many weeks.

With 24 disposals, 12 contested possessions, 10 clearances, five tackles and a goal, for 104 AFL Fantasy points – it was a remarkable effort from the man who played just two AFL games last year.

Wells was the top scorer for the Kangaroos this week and you simply can’t go past him when picking an AFL Fantasy Classic team. At $293,000 he is bound to make fantasy coaches plenty of cash.

Unfortunately for the Roos, Wells’ performance was one of few highlights on the night as the team looked impressive in the first half but really slumped in the second. It ultimately allowed a near full-strength Hawthorn to run away with a 45-point win.

Jack Ziebell was North’s other big performer in fantasy stakes with a score of 98, largely thanks to an excellent tally of eight tackles. Nick Dal Santo (86) and Todd Goldstein (83) produced solid scores.

We’ve been keeping an eye on Jed Anderson all pre-season but in his second NAB Challenge game he again spent most of his time in the forward line. Odds are he won’t be much of a fantasy scorer unless he regularly plays through the middle of the ground.

Priced at $224,000 he’s certainly in position to make coaches plenty of cash if he can produce quality scores in the season proper. At this stage though that’s a big ‘if’, and while he looks like he could start in the senior side, it may be in a forward pocket sort of role.

Jamie Macmillan will be one to monitor as the season begins. He only finished with a score of 69 but really impressed in the first half and has the potential to blossom into a quality fantasy defender this year.

At $436,000 he’s a bit expensive to be seriously considering for AFL Fantasy Classic but for those playing AFL Fantasy Elite he’d be a good player to draft into your backline late in the piece.

All in all, the pre-season has given us a taste for the real thing. Here’s looking forward to Round 1!
