With five wins from five games, and close to a best-on-ground performance on Saturday, Nick Dal Santo has reason to smile.

The 32-year-old was vital, particularly with his class and composure in the second half along the way to 28 disposals against the Suns.

In his 15th AFL season, Dal Santo is loving his footy.

“I’ve been happy with it (his season) from a different point of view,” he told NMFC.com.au following the game.

“I don’t think I’ve had a lot of the footy, but I’m just trying to complement those blokes who are playing a lot more inside, doing the majority of the bulk of the work.

“I’ve played a lot more on the wing, probably last year and the first five games this year.

“I’m actually really enjoying the role. I’m being flicked around a little bit, which means I have to be across all positions.”

Dal Santo said flexibility is key to being able to perform at his best.

“I love that about the game. You can play multiple positions and contribute in different ways and just try and help out.

“As long as we are winning I’m pretty happy.”

North sits a game clear on top of the ladder after its 38-point win over the Suns, boasting its best start since 2005.

“It’s only early days, but it’s really nice to be on the winning side of the ledger at this stage,” Dal Santo said.

“Previous years we’ve been chasing our tails a little bit and really had to fight for it.”

Perhaps the Roos’ biggest challenge will come next week though, as they take on the Bulldogs in a Friday night blockbuster.

“I think we are slowly improving. The first month of footy we were winning the games, but weren’t playing overly well,” Dal Santo added.

“Definitely in those four games there were some passages that nearly killed us, and we nearly lost because of those things.

“I actually thought tonight (against the Suns) was a pretty good, consistent four quarter effort.”
