Majak Daw is on standby should North opt to play a second ruckman in 2016.
Officially upgraded to the senior list on Wednesday, Daw said he’s more than happy to provide support for Todd Goldstein should the opposition look to double team the Syd Barker medallist.
“In the past when I’ve backed up Goldy, I’ve come in and out just doing five minute stints in the ruck to give him a chop-out,” Daw told NMFC.com.au.
“He’s an All-Australian ruckman so we need him at his best and if I can assist him in any way, it’s going go a long way in helping the team.”
Daw said he was rapt to get a full pre-season under his belt, after surgeries in each of the previous two years.
“It just means I’m not playing catch-up. I feel like my body’s stronger than it’s ever been and I’m running on top of the ground.
“I remember last year when I hadn’t done a full pre-season, I was just cramping towards the end of sessions and it was just getting me up to go when the season came. There’s none of that this time around.”
After being delisted at the end of 2015, Daw quickly turned his fortunes around.
“I’ve put in the work and I’m really happy the club has committed to me as the nominated rookie so I can play games.”
Nevertheless, the big man understands he needs to make the most of his opportunities.
“Time has just flown past and I’m coming into my seventh season now,” Daw added.
“I’ve developed a lot over the years, but being 25 now, I know what the expectation is. The expectation for me is I’m a senior player that’s fighting to a regular game.
“I’ll be doing everything I can this year to be a regular member of our side.”
