Televisions are scarce on the island of Santo, Vanuatu, and AFL is all but unknown.

And while North Melbourne and The Huddle’s ‘Welcome to AFL’ programs try to bring the national game to as many communities as possible, journeying over the Coral Sea to the remote island wasn’t possible.  

So when Hope Education approached North seeking support, it was a natural connection.

The Hope Education team use their outstanding skills as educators and teachers to help schools in Vanuatu by donating resources and providing professional learning for teachers. 

Most recently, part of this professional learning included a crash course in AFL.

Equipped with North footballs, hats and water bottles, Hope Education taught over two dozen teachers the fundamentals of the game, who in turn taught their students.

And though Kangaroos are only found in Australia, it appears that with the help of Hope Education, there is a new population in Vanuatu.
