The North Melbourne Tasmanian Kangaroos' 2020 list is complete, after selecting five players in the 2019 draft.
The North Melbourne Tasmanian Kangaroos have selected Ellie Gavalas with pick 10 in the 2019 NAB AFLW Draft.
Originally from Hobart, the midfielder adds to the Roos’ strong Tasmanian contingent.
Gavalas made a strong impression in her first season in the VFLW, taking out the Western Bulldogs VFLW Best and Fairest award for 2019, and made the VFL Team of the Year.
AFLW List Manager Rhys Harwood says Gavalas will bring some exciting attributes to the Roos’ midfield.
“Ellie is a strong bodied midfielder, with an elite burst of speed to get out of the contest,” Harwood told North Media.
“We feel she has capacity to add to our team straight away, but having only played the game for two years, we feel she has significant upside.”
The North Melbourne Tasmanian Kangaroos have selected Sarah Wright with pick 32 in the 2019 NAB AFLW Draft.
The 168cm forward joins the Roos from Carlton’s VFLW team.
“Sarah also played her first year of VFLW this year, having played with Keilor last year, and winning the best and fairest there,” Harwood said.
“She’s a really strong marking player with elite endurance, and we were really impressed with her last half of the season.
“She’s a terrific athlete and has plenty of scope to improve."
The North Melbourne Tasmanian Kangaroos have selected Mia King with pick 49 in the 2019 NAB AFLW Draft.
One of the brightest talents in the draft, King joins the club from Launceston and through the Roos access to the Tasmanian talent pool.
The 18-year-old inside midfielder earned a spot in the 2019 AFLW Under 18 All-Australian team, and averaged 20 disposals across three games for the Tasmanian Devils in the NAB League Girls.
"It’s great to be able to add Mia to the group. She’s come through our Tasmanian pathway and through the academy,” Harwood said.
“She’s had a great year with Tasmania, Launceston and the Eastern Allies. She’s got great hands, accumulates the footy and is a great competitor.”
The North Melbourne Tasmanian Kangaroos have selected Tahni Nestor with pick 64 in the 2019 NAB AFLW Draft.
Nestor joins from VFLW affiliate club Melbourne Uni, and has previously spent time on an AFLW list with Carlton.
The defender is the niece of former North Melbourne star and AFL Hall of Famer, Anthony Stevens.
“Tahni is a great story. She played as a top-up player with Carlton in the first year of AFLW.
“She’s been a leader at Melbourne Uni, and we can’t wait to give her an opportunity, and think she thoroughly deserves it.”
The North Melbourne Tasmanian Kangaroos have selected Abbey Green with pick 79 in the 2019 NAB AFLW Draft.
Like Mia King, Green joins from Launceston, where the 22-year-old was named in the TSLW team of the year.
At 183cm, Green is set to add to the Roos ruck and key-position stocks, having played in both attack and defence this season.
“Abbey performed really well as a ruck-forward for Launceston this year, and she played a great game for Melbourne Uni in the VFLW this season,” Harwood told North Media.
“We think she adds to our ruck-forward flexibility, and she’s another player who’s probably ready to play straight away.
