A break back home in Mooroopna has left Jy Simpkin refreshed after his shoulder injury.
Ruled out for six weeks after damaging his AC joint against Sydney, the journey home was just what the doctor ordered.
“On Tuesday I had surgery and after that went home,” Simpkin told NMFC.com.au.
“It was nice, it was actually my Nan’s birthday and my Dad’s birthday so I got to spend some time with the family and see some mates and watch them play footy.”
Simpkin explained he initially didn’t think he had done much damage to his shoulder.
“About halfway through the first quarter, I think it was (Lewis) Melican, we were both running for the ball and he bumped me in an awkward position.
“I just thought I had a dead arm so I thought it was just a stinger and it would go away after a little bit.
“After a while it still wasn’t getting much better so I went down to the bench, got my shoulder taped and I knew something wasn’t right but tried to get through it.”
Unfortunately it wasn’t the case, and now Simpkin is focusing on his rehab and potential comeback date.
“The next few weeks I’ve got to wait for my scar to heal properly and get some movement back in my arm and some range.
“Hopefully after the bye I should nearly back in business.”
The broken leg Simpkin suffered in his draft year of 2016 has helped him attack this injury with a clear mind.
“(The recovery from the broken leg has) held me in good stead,” Simpkin said.
“My frame of mind is a lot better than I would have been last year.
“Having that injury has kept me well.”
