Recruit Emma Humphries is hopeful her time as an AFLW player can assist her lesser experienced teammates in the North Melbourne Tasmanian Kangaroos’ inaugural season.

Traded in May this year, Humphries has spent the past two years at Melbourne after being drafted with pick 57 in 2016.

“I’m hoping to bring some really good professionalism to the club, and hopefully lead some of the Tassie girls back home given I’ve been in the system for a few years,” Humphries told North Media.

“It’d be great to have a leadership role, especially if the players see me as a leader as well.

“Having two years in the system already, you have a good idea of what goes on and how to go about things, so hopefully I can pass some of that knowledge on to the younger girls.”

The 22-year-old debuted in the opening round of the 2017 season, and featured in all seven of Melbourne’s matches that year.

Considered a utility, her reliability in the back-half and flexibility to play a number of different roles is what caught the eye of North’s recruiters.

Humphries aims to play to her strengths when she pulls on the royal blue and white in 2019.

“I’m hoping to play some good footy, that’s one of my main goals,” she said.

“Hopefully I can bring a good kicking game to North and some speed as well.”

A Tasmanian native, Humphries is looking forward to the prospect of playing some professional matches in her home state.

“It’s really exciting, just thinking about playing some AFLW games down in Tasmania is really exciting.”
