Greenwood’s footy first
Levi Greenwood will never shirk a contest out on the field and that could be bad news for his current housemate.
The pair will go head to head on Saturday for the first time when their respective VFL sides Werribee and Coburg collide at Avalon Airport Oval.
“I’m not going to try and kill him obviously, he’s my mate at the end of the day but still, he’s the opposition and I wouldn’t mind taking him out,” Greenwood said.
“I thought he was going to go up to the Richmond seniors this week but now it’s going to be pretty interesting to be housemates and have to play against each other.”
With Edwards in the Coburg forward line and Greenwood in the Werribee midfield, it’s unlikely they will get near one another, unless Edwards has his way.
“He said last night that he’s gonna come up into the midfield and man me up at the first bounce and get into me. I’d like to see him do that because I’d probably give him a little cheap shot in the guts…maybe…I don’t know.”
The closest the pair could get is to and from the venue.
“He still doesn’t have a car yet so I’m not sure what will happen there. If we end up driving there together it wouldn’t be too bad. We’re both pretty relaxed before a game so we wouldn’t stress about it.”
Leading into the match, Greenwood claims to have a few tricks up his sleeve to make sure Edwards isn’t on his game.
“I do the cooking pre-game so I might add a bit more chili to his pasta or maybe some laxatives…something like that to fix him up,” he joked.
On a serious note, the 24-year-old says fellow Werribee aligned Kangaroos Ayden Kennedy, Jordan Gysberts, Mason Wood, Liston Medal favourite Jarred Moore and Tim McGenniss are feeling good after having the week off and the group will be ready to fire come 2pm.
“I think the break came at the right time because we were all a little flat with the way we were performing. It showed in our games when we were getting run over late in games and I think we just needed a week off to freshen up and re-energize, get our heads right and get the season back on track.”
Werribee currently sits second last on the VFL ladder in 13th spot, while Coburg is in 11th.
Meanwhile up to eight Roo listed players will run out for the Roosters in their match against the Northern Blues on Saturday, alsoat 2pm.
Liam Anthony, Brad McKenzie, Max Warren, Luke and Cam Delaney, Ben Mabon, Ben Jacobs and Cam Richardson are all set to line up at Visy Park.
