With another three-goal, 19-disposal performance, Jarrad Waite continues to defy Father Time at the ripe old age of 35.
Waite was critical in the Roos’ 28-point victory, and says his body is feeling as good as ever.
“I’m feeling really good at the moment, and the body is holding up well, so it’s just week by week for me,” Waite told Fox Footy’s Sarah Jones after the match.
North’s number 30 took his season tally to 22 goals, ranking him in the top 10 in the competition.
But for Waite, it’s the team performance that’s most important.
“It’s a massive win for us,” he said.
“They (the Dockers) obviously play the ground really well, so it’s a great win on the road, and for Goldy’s (Todd Goldstein) 200th.
“We had a pretty shocking first quarter, and couldn’t really capitalise early, so we did well to come back.”
The veteran forward also praised the Roos’ backline, which has been the stingiest in the AFL so far in 2018.
“The defence have been crucial.”
“Taz (Robbie Tarrant), Turbo (Scott Thompson) and Sam Durdin coming in all played their roles, but the overall team defence went really well.”
In what was a fiercely contested match, Waite hinted that tensions threatened to boil over.
“It was pretty hot in the middle, but I try and stay out of that kind of stuff,” he said.
“It was just two teams going hard at it, and once the siren sounds and the game’s over it’s all good.”
Another win lifts the Roos up to fifth on the ladder, and confidence is growing.
“We’ve always had the belief, but it’s great to get another win and another four points, which will put us in good stead,” Waite added.
