Port Adelaide's clash with Essendon at the Adelaide Oval will kick-start the final round of home and away games, after the AFL released the round 23 fixture on Monday.

As reported by AFL.com.au last week, Sydney's potentially pivotal clash with Hawthorn missed the prime-time slot and will be played at the SCG on Saturday night.

Melbourne and GWS will meet in a crucial encounter at the MCG on Sunday afternoon, with North Melbourne's finals hopes perhaps hinging on the result of that game.

The Kangaroos will play the Saints just after that match in Sunday's twilight game.

Geelong takes on Gold Coast in Saturday's early fixture in another match that could have finals ramifications, while ladder leaders Richmond will also play on Saturday afternoon.

Collingwood's top four hopes may be decided against Fremantle at Optus Stadium in a clash that has been scheduled for Saturday's twilight spot.

Carlton hosts Adelaide at Etihad Stadium on Saturday night, while Brisbane meets West Coast at the Gabba in Sunday's early game.
