North Melbourne hit the track for its main training session on Wednesday, with all eyes on a big clash against Collingwood in three days' time.

“They’re a really top-quality side,” interim coach Rhyce Shaw told the media.

“The Bulldogs gave a great account of themselves on the weekend, but they the Magpies) got over the line and they will take confidence into playing us.

“We’ve got to be really wary of a very good side.”

One of the main match-ups to watch will be the ruck battle between Todd Goldstein and Brodie Grundy.

“It’s a great opportunity and challenge for Todd,” Shaw said.

“Brodie is a fantastic player, and he has real dominance in that ruck area. But I fully back Todd against him, and I’m looking forward to the battle.”

The Roos sit 13th after the bye rounds, but Shaw is hopeful of a big second half of the season.

“It’s been a big year for them (the players), especially the last month," he said.

“But I want them to be focused on what they want to achieve in the second half of the year.

“We’ve still got the opportunity to do something in the second half of the year, and I don’t see why we can’t.

“We started to play the sort of footy we wanted to in the five or six weeks before the bye, and my goal is keep us playing to those capabilities and strengths.”
