North Melbourne captain Jy Simpkin has been selected in the Indigenous All Stars squad.
A proud Yorta Yorta man, Simpkin is one of 31 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander AFL players from 16 clubs who will take part in the match against Fremantle at Optus Stadium on February 15.
Simpkin became the first Indigenous captain in North Melbourne’s history when he was first appointed co-captain alongside Luke McDonald in 2023.
Now the club's sole captain, he is currently one of two Indigenous captains in the league.
North Melbourne will also be represented in the Indigenous All Stars coaching panel.
Kangaroos assistant coach and proud Larrakia and Amrreamo/Marritjavin man Xavier Clarke was announced as senior coach of the team in December, while proud Ngarrindjeri man Jarrod Lienert was revealed as an assistant coach on Friday.
Lienert – who played 34 games with Port Adelaide and St Kilda – originally joined North Melbourne’s VFL program as a playing assistant coach in 2023 before being promoted to development coach and Indigenous player development manager ahead of the 2024 AFL season.
He is one of four assistant coaches for the Indigenous All Stars alongside Chance Bateman (West Coast), Roger Hayden (Fremantle) and Jason Williams (Port Adelaide).
