Excitement continues to build as the first official practice match for the North Melbourne Tasmanian Kangaroos fast approaches.
The looming meet with Melbourne at Casey Fields on Saturday has created a buzz within the playing group, according to experienced inside midfielder Jamie Stanton.
“There’s a really good buzz around the group, we’re all up and about,” Stanton told North Media.
“I think all the girls are really looking forward to our first hit-out. Even though it’s a practice match, we don’t want to do anything different with our preparation.
“We’ve been picked for a specific reason.”
The 23-year-old, who spent two seasons with Brisbane, understands the importance of mirroring training structure in both preparation and game day.
With that in mind, Stanton has urged the young Roos to treat all forms of match simulation with similar intent.
“Just because it’s our first practice match, doesn’t mean we need to think differently,” she explained.
“It’s still a game of footy and we should prepare like we normally would for a club game, or an AFLW grand final.
“It’s obviously exciting, as it always is when you pull on an AFLW jumper.”
Stanton emphasised the importance of sticking to the structure that has been in place since day one.
“We want to play our style of footy,” she said.
“There was a lot of time over the break learning our game style, how it will look and just backing ourselves in. We believe that the game style that we’ve set-up will work.
“It’s about seeing how that goes against an actual opponent and then making changes from there.”
