He's an unrestricted free agent at the end of the year, but Todd Goldstein isn't planning one going anywhere.
The North Melbourne ruckman claims he could play another five seasons and join the illustrious 300-game, one-club player club.
“I don’t think my form warrants me not having a contract so I think I will be playing footy next year and that’s my goal, to keep playing. Hopefully we can come to an agreement," he said during North's open media session.
“I think every player wants to be (a one-club player) and I would love to be a 300-gamer for this footy club. I am on 216 games so it’s not unrealistic.
“Every player wants that but it’s a business as well so if the club don’t want me I would have to look somewhere else.
“But as far as I am aware my manager (Tom Petroro) talks to the club regularly and hopefully they can come to something sooner rather than later.”
Goldstein is doing everything he can to win another deal, shedding 5kg over summer after training six days a week with his partner Felicity.
At age 30, he's feeling primed for another solid year.
“This is the best my body has felt in a while and with my headspace I am enjoying list as much as I have ever," he told The Herald Sun's Jon Ralph.
"So while I am doing that I would like to keep playing. I don’t know why I can’t play three, four or five years.
“It was probably 4 or 5kg over pre-season [weight-loss] and it’s 3-4kg now, a significant amount.
“It was just focusing on diet and when the season finished I was quite motivated to keep going. My partner and I trained a fair bit and she helped me a lot.
“Being an ex-athlete, we were doing five or six days a week doing the gym and training hard.”
After 783 hit-outs and 320 possessions last year, Goldstein is still hungry to improve and can't wait to start against Essendon on Good Friday.
“My form has been OK without being great," he admitted.
"It was better on the weekend. It’s just finding ways to have an impact. We just want to play in the big games and be part of them.
“We raised a lot of money last year and hopefully we can do the same thing.
“I have played a fair bit against Tom and Zac Clarke I have known since basketball days. (Ruck coach) Will Minson and I will have a good look at them but mostly its about how I can help the team.”
