The Kangaroos jetted off to the Gold Coast on Thursday with Dean Laidley promising fans a glimpse of the future when his side takes on Collingwood at Carrara Stadium on Friday night. The coach wasn't making any bold predictions about the team's chances in the NAB Cup competition, but he guaranteed there would be plenty of exciting, young talent on show."It will be fantastic for the Kangas' supporters to watch tomorrow night because there's going to be five or six new faces," Laidley said from Melbourne Airport."I think that's going to be the most prevalent thing that's going to come out of our side. We've got 30-odd players under 24 years of age, so I think it's a great opportunity for them to come and watch us.Final selection will not take place until after the Roos' training session on Thursday afternoon, but Laidley said embattled ruckman David Hale would definitely be taking his place in the line-up despite a tough week thanks to his involvement in an AFL gambling probe."He'll play, he's been selected to play. We're right behind David and it's all about his performance on the ground. Look, as his coach, I'm backing him 100 per cent," he said."I've had several chats with him and a lot's been written and a lot's been said and I'll leave that up to you guys, and other people, rather than getting involved in that myself."Kangaroos' veteran Glen Archer will not make the trip after being eased through pre-season training, but the 33-year-old is slated to play three games before round one of the premiership season. And while Laidley was not particularly concerned with going all out to win a competition the Roos traditionally do well in, he did admit that staying in the main draw was preferable to hitting the country trail to play in the NAB Regional Challenge."It's no good going out and winning a competition and then not performing in the season - it's about our preparation for round one," he said."Our main focus will always be round one, but these games are great preparation and probably the longer you can stay in the competition (the better). You're going to play on better grounds, you're probably not going to have to travel as much, you're not going to have to play in central New South Wales or outback country Victoria where the conditions are pretty harsh at the moment."So, from a player preparation point of view to play on better grounds - it might be an idea to stay in."
