On a day when Luke McDonald will become part of the 22nd father-son combination in North Melbourne’s history, NMFC.com.au has uncovered the Footy Record from his father Donald’s debut game.

McDonald senior made his debut against Melbourne as a 19 year old in Round 7 of 1982 at the MCG.

It was a notable game, simply for the level of scoring involved. Donald kicked two goals in North’s 28.12.180 – and yet it ‘only’ defeated Melbourne by 37 points.

In the third quarter North kicked 8.2 – and lost the quarter by six points.

While it’s unlikely Luke will be involved in anything quite similar to that, he will begin the countdown to catching his Dad for total games. Just 154 more will be required after Friday night.
