He’s played just three AFL games since 2010 and is yet to get an opportunity this season, but Ben Warren isn’t being deterred from breaking back into the Kangaroos’ team.

The 23-year-old has adopted a club first mentality that demands the utmost respect and says he’s only too happy to see his team-mates succeed even if it’s at the expense of his personal goals and ambitions.

“I know it’s going to be tough for me to get back in the senior side, but at the same time if I’m playing well, players like Aaron Edwards and Lindsay Thomas have to play well to keep me out. If they are playing well, we are winning games,” Warren told kangaroos.com.au in an exclusive video interview.

Warren kicked six goals on Sunday for Werribee, but is accepting of the fact he could be in Tigers’ colours again on the weekend.

“I guess that’s probably a sign of a successful team and a team on the rise. It’s so tough for spots at the moment in seniors.”

Warren’s last AFL game was in round 18 last year against the Lions, but 14 goals in five games for Werribee is making him hard to ignore for Brad Scott and North’s match committee.

He’s already kicked five goals on two occasions this year and when you add Sunday’s six goal haul to the mix, Warren is fast becoming a formidable opponent both inside and outside Aegis Park.

“I guess I’ve been labelled as hit-up player, and in recent times as a one-trick pony in getting the footy. I’ve just tried to work on that and add bits to my game so I can come into a side in a variety of roles in the forward-line.”
