With only five weeks until the first ever AFL match on Good Friday, North Melbourne Managing Director and CEO Carl Dilena can see everything starting to take shape.

“There’s been a lot of work done behind the scenes but it’s getting closer and closer every day,” Dilena told SEN’s Hungry for Sport.

“(We’re) working through with the Good Friday Appeal and Channel 7 and everyone involved to work out how best to maximise the fundraising for the Royal Children’s Hospital.

“There’ll be a huge amount of work that goes around the game to raise extra funds as well.”

It was announced on Tuesday night that five dollars from every ticket purchased will go directly to the Good Friday Appeal.

Dilena is promising more to come as well, including both clubs’ members.

“There’ll be various avenues for that.

“There’ll be the ability online to donate and make extra donations.

“We’ll run similar campaigns with our members, as will the Bulldogs with theirs to encourage people to contribute to the Appeal and really raise the bar with the fundraising.”

A whole day of events connected to the game will likely boost the Appeal even further.

With future participation in a Good Friday clash up in the air, Dilena is determined to show how North is contributing to the community by playing on the day.

“We’ve been told by the AFL there’s no guarantees for next year, so we have to do the best we can,” Dilena added.

“We really want to make a big bang in the first year. The main aim is to work with the Appeal and to break their record for fundraising.

“If we can do that and look after the Royal Children’s Hospital and make a great event for the fans, then we’re doing our job and hopefully we get respected for doing that job.”
