Over the course of the season, North Melbourne’s Twitter handle - @northkangaroos – asked fans which plays they would like to see made into gifs.

Now with the year having come to a close, the best 32 gifs will battle against each other to take out the inaugural gif of the year title.

It will all be decided by you. Over the next three weeks there will be two matchups a day, with the voting period just 24 hours.

It starts today with our number one and two seeds – based on total views during the season.

The full draw will be revealed at the conclusion of the first round.

Match 1

#1: Kayne Turner’s smother (Semi Final) v Sam Wright’s goal saving tackle (Round 16)

Turner’s desperate lunge to cut off Joel Selwood’s inside 50 in the dying stages of the semi-final victory became the most viewed gif of the year.

However it has a tough first round opponent in Wright. Chasing down Luke Breust when it looked like the Hawks’ forward was waltzing into goal, the North defender managed to apply the tackle, forcing a crucial turnover.

Match 2

#2: Drew ‘Frank’ Petrie (Elimination Final) v Scott Thompson candy (Round 4)

Petrie’s impromptu celebration after putting his side in front in the Elimination Final instantly went viral on social media, drawing comparisons to ‘Frank the Tank’ from movie Old School.

Fellow key position player Scott Thompson is his opponent to start the tournament. Some deft candy by the defender in Round 4 sent Swan Tom Mitchell sprawling.
