Blues reject Cooney offer as part of Liam Jones trade
Carlton rejects package of Dogs champ as part of Liam Jones trade.
Carlton has refused the Western Bulldogs' offer of including 2008 Brownlow medallist Adam Cooney in a trade for Bulldogs key forward Liam Jones.
The Bulldogs had proposed packaging Jones and Cooney together as part of a trade that would have seen them claim the Blues' second-round draft pick, No. 28.
Speaking to NAB AFL Trade Radio, Carlton head of football operations Andrew McKay ruled out luring Cooney to Visy Park.
"No, he's not (a player of interest). There's been a lot of things said about Adam for two days now," McKay said on Thursday afternoon.
"But certainly Adam won't be coming to Carlton next year."
The Blues remain committed to securing Jones in a trade, but it is more likely that any trade will revolve around their third-round pick, No. 46.
Carlton is also pursuing trades for GWS key-position player Kristian Jaksch and Jones' Bulldogs teammate Jason Tutt.
It is also believed Cooney remains a chance to leave the Whitten Oval with at least one other rival club interested in him.
The Bulldogs' captain, Ryan Griffen, shocked the club on Thursday when he requested a trade to Greater Western Sydney.
