While North's season-opener was a disappointing, there were some solid individual performances.

Among those to shine were Todd Goldstein, Lindsay Thomas and new recruit Shaun Higgins; but who deserves the top votes?

NMFC.com.au has teamed up with Mazda again in 2015 for the Mazda Spirit Awards, recognising players who illustrated strength, performance and power and toughness; all features of the Mazda BT-50.

This year, we're encouraging fans to vote on a 3-2-1 basis for the Roos' best, with the top vote-getter across the season taking out the Mazda Spirit Award.

Along the way, we'll be offering great prizes including Mazda BT-50 eskies, with one major-prize winner at the end of the year receiving two tickets to the Syd Barker Medal and the opportunity to present the award to this year's recipient.

So who gets your votes for round one? Some players to consider:

Todd Goldstein
The big man battled valiantly over four quarters against Crows' ruckman Sam Jacobs, having a huge impact in the third quarter as North made a mini-fightback.

Goldstein finished with 35 hit-outs to go with 10 disposals and four tackles.

Shaun Higgins
The former Bulldog couldn't have been more impressive in his North debut, booting four goals in an outstanding performance.

While some of his teammates struggled with the Crows' pressure, Higgins looked composed and polished with 15 possessions along the way.

Lindsay Thomas
The small-forward played a big part in the Roos' mini-revival in the third term, with his strength in one-on-one battles a highlight.

Thomas finished with 17 disposals and booted two goals.

Shaun Atley
While he only finished with 17 disposals, Atley's power in breaking the lines and providing run and carry was on show.

He showed a great willingness to take risks and was also influential defensively, managing eight tackles.

Ben Cunnington
In his 100th game, the midfielder was North's most prolific ball-winner, finishing with 26 disposals and eight marks.

Cunnington illustrated strength in the contest, gathering four clearances.
