North Melbourne will host the West Coast Eagles for its final home game of the season as it looks to pick up a second consecutive win for the first time this year.

The Roos are coming off a confidence-building win over the Tigers, while the Eagles will be hoping to ride their momentum after overcoming the Suns.

Round 22: North Melbourne v West Coast
Where: Blundstone Arena, Hobart, TAS
When: Saturday, August 10 at 1.45pm AEST
How to watch: Foxtel, Kayo Sports

The opposition

It was a gutsy victory for the Eagles last time out against Gold Coast, triumphing by 10 points in front of their home ground while simultaneously snapping their nine-game skid.

After trailing for the majority of the night, co-captain Liam Duggan emerged as the hero late, snapping a brilliant goal to give West Coast a four-point lead before Jamie Cripps sealed the win with a classy inside-out snap on the boundary.

They'll be without key defender Tom Barrass again, but should regain retiring star Andrew Gaff which could provide the squad a boost as they look to send the No.3 off in style over the next fortnight.

What the coaches have said

North Melbourne senior coach Alastair Clarkson on Thursday: "We've spoken regularly about trying to finish the season really strongly, that's the go for us. The stuff that we're doing in the last few weeks of the season is more about 2025 and 2026 than right now."

West Coast interim senior coach Jarrad Schofield on Thursday: "It was a collective decision to honour a milestone player. The club and match committee was fully supportive of it. The boys are looking forward to seeing 'Gaffy' out there and we are going to get the Andrew Gaff we expect, he will play his role, run hard and be a selfless player like he always has been."

Milestone watch

Co-captain and two-time Syd Barker medallist Jy Simpkin will notch his 150th League appearance on Saturday.

The midfielder rediscovered his top form following a slow start to the year and has played a key role in the club's resurgence following the Round 12 bye.

Coming off 20 touches and a game-high nine inside 50s against Richmond, Simpkin will be out to continue his strong form.

Last time we met

North Melbourne registered a much-needed breakthrough last time these clubs met, as the Roos managed to edge past West Coast at Optus Stadium in Round 13.

The visitors were in the driver's seat with one term to play but a fourth-quarter flurry from the Eagles saw them pinch the lead with 10 minutes remaining.

But just as it seemed like the Kangas had run out of energy, they found a way to hit back with a clutch goal from Simpkin (28 disposals, seven tackles) and a sealer from Paul Curtis being enough to get their side over the line.

Zac Fisher racked up a game-high 36 disposals and 758 metres gained, while Nick Larkey starred down forward with five majors.
