NMFC.com.au presents some interesting stats and facts relating to North Melbourne and the Western Bulldogs ahead of this week’s match.
- This is the sixth consecutive meeting between the two sides at Etihad Stadium.
Overall North has a slight advantage at the ground, leading the head-to-head with eight wins to the Bulldogs’ seven.
- Of all the Victorian clubs, North's highest win/loss percentage is against the Bulldogs.
- In the last meeting between the two sides, the Bulldogs were held to their lowest score (8.13.61) against the Kangaroos since 1996.
North’s 54-point victory on that afternoon was also its highest winning margin against the Bulldogs since 2007.
- Only one North player has kicked double-figure goals against the Bulldogs.
That honour goes to Malcolm Blight. He kicked 11 in Round 17, 1981 at the Western Oval. North won by nine points after trailing by 40 at quarter time.
- North's greatest winning margin against the Bulldogs is 131 points in Round 2, 1996, the third-biggest victory in the club's history.
There were 11 goal scorers for the Kangaroos among their tally of 26. Wayne Carey booted six, while Craig Sholl was handed the three Brownlow votes for 22 possessions and 4 goals.
- North's highest third and fourth quarter scores of all time were registered against the Bulldogs.
The Kangaroos’ 12.5.77 in 1983 at Arden Street still stands as the third quarter record for the league, and North's second best quarter ever.
The fourth quarter record is 12.4.76, set in Round 5, 1980 at the SCG. The game was one of four scheduled in Sydney by the then VFL as it attempted to establish the Sunday afternoon timeslot as a viable alternative in the future. At the final siren, North were ahead by 122 points.
- Matthew Boyd averages 34.8 possessions in his last five games against North.
In North's last loss to the Bulldogs in 2012, Boyd collected 44 possessions. Interesting, he didn't register a Brownlow vote for the performance.
- Drew Petrie has 13 goals in his last three games against the Bulldogs.
With the departure of Brian Lake, Petrie won't have to deal with his traditional opponent and will probably match up on Jordan Roughead.
- Of Victorian clubs, the Bulldogs are the only team North has never lost to by 100 points or more.
The highest losing margin against the Bulldogs is 92 points.
