North Melbourne’s midfield brigade has been lauded for its efforts against the Hawks, and the coaches have added their praise.

Andrew Swallow, Daniel Wells and Jack Ziebell were all among the votes from Brad Scott and Alastair Clarkson in the AFLCA Champion Player of the Year.

The Kangaroos dominated the clearance area, registering 19 more than their opponents, with Swallow and Wells two of the biggest contributors.

It was a true captain’s performance from the North Melbourne number 9. He had 35 disposals, his best tally since Round 17, 2011, amassed 9 clearances and pumped the ball inside 50 on 7 occasions.

Wells gathered a career-high 11 clearances to lead all comers, had 27 possessions and kicked a vital goal in the final term to give his team the lead.

The pair registered eight and six votes respectively, only behind the Hawks’ Cyril Rioli.

Ziebell picked up 26 touches and kicked a goal for his two votes, while Scott Thompson’s brilliant defensive performance on Lance Franklin earned him two.
