EXCITING forward Aaron Edwards will make his long-awaited return from a broken leg when North Melbourne hosts Port Adelaide at the MCG on Saturday afternoon.

Edwards sustained the injury against the Sydney Swans in round six, derailing a start to the season that had all the promise of his landmark 2007.

The Roos have named the 24-year-old in a forward pocket, presenting him with an important opportunity on the eve of the finals after he kicked four goals for VFL affiliate North Ballarat last week.

Edwards saw all of North Melbourne's September action last year, and was a stand-out in the semi-final against Hawthorn with four goals and a mark that should have figured in the season's best.

Should the Roos beat the Power, they will secure fourth spot and set up an intriguing qualifying final against minor premier Geelong.

North Melbourne lost to the Cats by 33 points last weekend, but will carry positives from a match that saw David Hale kick a career-high eight goals against a much-vaunted backline.

Edwards will bolster the attack, as will the speedy Matt Campbell, who has won a recall after last week's late withdrawal with hamstring soreness.

Making way for the pair is experienced midfielder Jess Sinclair, who replaced Campbell against Geelong, and defender Scott Thompson.

Saturday's match will be champion Shannon Grant's 300th career game, with the 31-year-old also announcing on Tuesday that he will retire at the end of the season.

North Melbourne played Port Adelaide just seven weeks ago, claiming a gritty two-point win at AAMI Stadium that kick-started a run of six victories.

The Roos have won 14 of their 19 games against the Power and will look for another convincing effort against their 13th-placed opponents.
