Young defender Erika O'Shea impressed alongside veterans Ash Riddell and Nicole Bresnehan in the Kangaroos' Yo-Yo endurance test on Tuesday.

The trio finished equal first in the club's top group of runners, two months on from the side's official pre-season launch, when Riddell and Bresnehan led the pack in a 1.5km time trial.

O'Shea, 21, was able to match it with the experienced duo after recently returning from another stint with Gaelic football outfit Cork in Ireland.

On Wednesday, O'Shea's Kangaroo teammate Vikki Wall confirmed she will miss the 2023 AFLW season to pursue an opportunity to represent Ireland in next year's Paris Olympics.

Third-year key defender Jasmine Ferguson finished fourth in the Yo-Yo test, while pacey young gun Taylah Gatt and experienced back Emma Kearney finished equal fifth.

Half-forward Alice O'Loughlin and winger Amy Smith came in equal seventh, with star midfielder Jasmine Garner and new Kangaroo Ruby Tripodi not far behind in equal ninth.

What is the Yo-Yo test?

The Yo-Yo intermittent recovery test is an aerobic endurance fitness test, involving running between markers placed 20 metres apart, at increasing speeds, until exhaustion.

Following each 40-metre run, the participants have an active break before running 40 metres again.
