Indigenous Round is of great significance to two of North’s past champions, and for Jim and Phil Krakouer the opportunity to present the match ball to the umpires on Sunday is one they’ll embrace.

The brothers met with the Kangaroos’ playing group on Thursday, speaking of their pride in their Indigenous culture.

“I believe in my heart that me and Phil, since our success in the footy club, we broke the barrier for Aboriginal players and made a change of thinking for footy clubs. It makes me feel proud,“ Jim said.

For Daniel Wells, who wore Phil’s number on his back as a youngster the experience of hearing from his idols was one he’ll always remember.

“Just to hear their story… where they come from and how much love they’ve still got for the club, it’s inspirational,” Wells said.

As well as handing over the special Indigenous-themed football, the Krakouers will form part of a guard of honour with the club’s Indigenous Academy as the players run out, and stand alongside the captains for the toss of the coin.
