The North Melbourne Football Club is mourning the loss of Jacqui Carton, a devoted Kangaroos fan and the great granddaughter of 1903 VFA premiership player John English.
A long-term member of the club, Carton recently passed away after a battle with cancer.
Carton attended every game she could, whether it was at home or away, and even volunteered as the club’s mascot at away games for a few years.
She could regularly be spotted at club functions, training sessions, practice matches and VFL games too, and was involved in a number of fundraising activities for both the club and the club’s cheer squad.
Carton was a player sponsor for eight years, and most recently sponsored defender Jackson Archer.
Her love for the Kangaroos was shared with her family, purchasing memberships for her five nieces and nephews each year from the day they were born.
Carton has happily entrusted her great grandfather’s medal, one from North Melbourne’s first-ever premiership win, to the club on a yearly basis since 2011. It was her wish for her brother, as the medal’s new caretaker, to continue to this agreement with club going forward.
She will remain etched on club with a foundation stone at Arden Street Oval as part of the recent refurbishments.
Approximately 170 of Jacqui’s friends and family will attend the Kangaroos’ Round 1 game at Marvel Stadium on Saturday to ensure her passion for the club is still felt by the team even in her in absence.
The club thanks Jacqui for her support over many years and extends its condolences to the Carton and English families.
