North Melbourne's VFL team has come away with its second practice match win in 2023, defeating the Footscray Bulldogs by 30 points at Arden Street Oval on Saturday.
Tom Lynch's side, which featured six AFL-listed players and a host of fresh names, took a 13-point lead into the main change and came out swinging in the third quarter, kicking six goals to three to ultimately set up the 15.12 (102) to 10.12 (72) victory.
Daniel Howe and Tarryn Thomas were influential in midfield, with the former Hawk impressing through his physicality and grunt work and Thomas with his classy bursts of speed and disposal execution out of stoppages.
Aidan Corr proved a class above behind the football as an intercepter, marshalling the backline troops. He worked alongside Aaron Hall whose pace often troubled the Footscray forwards.
Like his senior teammates, Curtis Taylor was composed and vocal throughout the contest, while Phoenix Spicer offered a spark inside 50 and, at times, higher up the ground which saw him involved in several transition plays from half-back.
"All those (AFL) guys have had interrupted pre-seasons, and this was a continuation of their return to play," VFL coach Tom Lynch told North Media post-game.
"I was rapt that they were all able to get through the game unscathed and get the minutes under their belts and they're going to be better for the run because of it."

Small forward Jamie Hope got the ball rolling with the first of the morning, before snapping his second just moments later to give the Kangaroos an early advantage.
Hope finished up with three while fellow VFL-listed players Jack Ellwood, Blake Simondson and Ben Bath all slotted two of their own in an exciting performance from the team's youngsters.
"This was a game where we were able to really give opportunities to our whole VFL list being an affiliated group," Lynch said.
"Being able to throw on the North Melbourne jumper for a number of these guys for the first time I'm sure would have been a real thrill for them and I was really pleased with the way they went about it today.
"I could go through our players to no end about their performances today … I was really pleased with Cooper Keogh in the ruck, he was outstanding for us, and our smalls up forward – Jamie Hope, Jason McCormick, Jack Ellwood and these boys – put a hell of a lot of pressure on all day with Phoenix Spicer.

"It was really pleasing that we were able to kick a score in that third quarter but it was a really even contest throughout the day."
The Bulldogs, led by Mitch Hannan, began the final term with a mini surge as they started working their way back into the game, but chances went begging in front of goal as North Melbourne managed to keep them at arm's length.
Despite Footscray chipping away at the lead, goals to Thomas, Ellwood and Simondson in the final 10 minutes put the result beyond doubt.
