It was the connection of the North Melbourne Tasmanian Kangaroos with her home state that made Emma Humphries’ decision to sign on an easy one.

Having played two seasons with Melbourne Football Club in the AFLW competition, Humphries leaped at the opportunity to play for the Roos, which meant she could live in Tasmania while playing in the elite competition.  

While unknowns surround the exact playing landscape for the Roos' inaugural side, the fast-paced utility is already looking forward to pulling on the royal blue and white stripes in front of her home crowd.

“It will be amazing to play a game in Tasmania, whether it be our first game or the last,” Humphries told The Mercury.

“I’ve had people ask me if we are going to play games in Tassie, and I don’t think they’d mind where it was played, in Ulverstone or in Hobart.

“I think they will embrace it and we might even get a sellout to one of the games.

“It will be massive.”

Employed by AFL Tasmania, Humphries sees first hand the importance of football to the state.

“Working in game development for AFL Tasmania and seeing the game at the grassroots, it’s pretty big in Tassie,” she said.

“So to be able to have a game in Tassie would be great reward for everyone in the background who has put in the hard work and to get the little ones along to see the women play would be amazing as well.”
